If notifications from other programmes (e.g. from the ‘Microsoft Store’) appear while you are changing the Windows settings or setting up the necessary programmes, do not simply click them away, but click on the 3 dots next to the X and select ‘Disable all notifications for XXX’.

General PC settings for the best neurofeedback experience:

  1. Bluetooth and Devices > Devices > Bluetooth Device Discovery: Advanced
  2. system > Power / Power and battery > Power status: High power / Best power (names vary)

❓

If this (or the following point) cannot be changed in the Windows 11 Control Panel, this can probably be done in the old Control Panel (‘Control Panel’ search & open > System and Security > Power Options)

  1. System > performance / power and battery (name varies) > Screen and power saving mode:

    1. switch off screen: 2h
    2. sleep mode in battery mode: 3h
    3. sleep mode in mains operation: Never
  2. System > screen > scaling:

→ Set to 100% or 125% depending on screen size & resolution

→ It is best to adjust the scaling for the BrainAssistant beforehand and if it is not necessary, do not change anything

  3. Windows Update > Check for updates

→ Run through all available updates; sometimes Windows causes problems with the installation of components or gets stuck at ‘Downloading - 100%’ / ‘Installation pending’ / ‘Installing - 0%’ etc.; in this case, check above to see if Windows indicates that a restart is required

→ Some updates also require manual activation, so check the component list again and again

💡

It can take a long time for all Windows updates to complete (2-3 hours). If the PC is not restarting, other programmes can normally be installed as normal during this time

→ If Windows offers to install the latest updates automatically, click on ‘Decline’; if necessary, deactivate ‘Get the latest updates as soon as they are available’ (move the slider to the left)

Graphics card settings (Nvidia) for a smooth gaming experience

  1. System settings > search Nvidia App > sometimes also called ‘GeForce Experience’, this is an old version and can be upgraded to the ‘NVIDIA App’

❗

If neither is installed on your PC, please enter ‘Nvidia App’ in your Internet browser and download for Windows https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/. In the second step after installing the app, the ‘Game Ready Driver’ must be selected.

In the Nvidia app > Driver > Download NEW > Install > Select Express Installation

📢

BrainAssisstant should be closed during the installation of the new graphics driver, otherwise it may crash. In addition, screen flickering may occur, which is completely normal!

After successfully installing the new driver, you can click on the ‘Reload’ icon above the installation button and ‘Reinstall’ should then be selectable

  1. Right-click on desktop > (Show more options >) NVIDIA Control Panel > (Allow any access requests)
    1. 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings > Preferred Graphics Processor > select ‘NVIDIA High Performance Processor’ from the drop-down menu
    2. 3D Settings > Configure Surround, PhysX > select ‘NVIDIA High Performance Processor’ from the drop-down menu
  2. Right-click on taskbar > Taskbar settings
    1. search: search field
    2. active applications: On
    3. widgets: Off
    4. chat: Off
